SAPPA 9 Ball Tour Stop No6, Edinburgh Pat lost out in the final of this event to in form player Davy Jack (Arbroath). On route to the final he had fine wins over Mark Owens 6-1, Ross Simpson 6-5 and . In the last 16 KO stage he defeated Ross McInnes 7-5 (from 5-3 down), Steve Capaldi 7-5 (from 5-0 down) and Johnny Holden 7-3 to reach the final. Davy played very well in the final limiting Pat to very little chances, albeit the luck factor was definitely on Davy's side throughout the match. Pat led 2-1 and was never at the races after that as Davy took clearance after clearance to seal the win. I'm sure the 26hrs of travel from Manila didn't help Pat's cause much as he looked drained in the latter stages of this event.

4 - 11 November 2006

World 9 Ball Pool Championship, Manila Pat lost out in the last 16 of this event to defending champion Wu Chia Ching from Chinese Taipei. A 500/1 outsider for the championship and 20/1 to win his group, the odds were heavily stacked against Holtz to win any matches in the tournament but that has never fazed him in all his years of playing. In the group stages he had fine wins over Jose Parica (Philippines) 8-3, Ricky Yang (Indonesia) 8-6 and Santos Sambajon (Philippines) 8-2 to top the group with 3 wins from 3 and finish the group stages as No9 seed overall. He was 2-0 and 3-2 down against Jose Parica on the TV table before going on to win 8-3. He followed this fine performance up in the next match against Yang by pulling back from 4-1 down to win 8-6 and then disposed of Santos by a convincing 8-2 scoreline leading from the off. In the last 64 KO stage he beat Tomoo Takano (Japan) 10-6, leading 9-2 at one point before Takano rallied to win 4 on the bounce. In the last 32 he defeated Kevin Uzzell (England) 10-6, again trailing this match 5-3 he dug deep and won 6 racks on the trot to reach the hill 9-5 before Kevin pulled one back. In the last 16 he came unstuck and lost out by 11-6 although the scoreline doesn't quite reflect how the match went. Pat missed a few chances and his safety game was not at it's best and these two points are what caused his downfall as he truly believed the title of World Champion was there for the taking. This was a new record for Scottish players at these Championships and Pat has secured a spot in next years event and he hopes to go much further and hopefully bring the title back home to Scotland.

He then went on to win 9-1 against Jayson Shaw in losers final to face Michael again. He beat Michael 9-8 to set up a mouth watering deciding match to see who would win the all expenses paid trip to Spain in December but it was Michael who prevailed in the end with a comfortable 9-1 success.

21 - 22 October 2006

Scottish 9 Ball Championship, Kirkcaldy Pat won this event defeating Scott Gillespie 10-9 in a thrilling final. Trailing most of the match, Pat came back from 7-4 and 9-7 to scrape over the line with a "golden break" in the hill-hill decider. Having had some bad rolls and 3 scratches with the white on the break, it was shaping up not to be Pat's day but with the usual 'will to win' attitude and not giving in, Pat managed to claw back the deficit and beat his good friend to the title. En-route to the final Pat beat Paul Tierney 7-2 and Peter McLanachan 7-2 to reach the last 16 straight KO stage. He then went on to win against George Fagan 8-2, Richard Berrie 8-3 and Jayson Shaw 9-3 in the semi-finals.

Paddy played well and had a good few pieces of luck when he missed pots or came out of snookers but that's 9 ball for you!

17 September 2006

World 9 Ball Qualifier, Belshill Pat put his recent good form to use and won the Scottish qualifying heat for the 2006 World 9 Ball Championship. Pat started off his results with a fine 10-2 win over Roddy McConnell. He followed this up with wins over Davy Jack 10-5, Darren Murray 10-4 and Jayson Shaw 10-8 to reach the final. In the final he played against his World Cup team mate Michael Valentine and defeated him 10-8.
Michael got off to a great start with a 3-0 lead but Pat bounced back and fine play saw him take an 8-4 lead only for Michael to come back into the match 8-7.
Pat dug his heels in to go on the hill at 9-7 only for Michael to pull another frame back to 9-8 but Pat held his nerve to close out the match 10-8 and will now represent Scotland at this years Championship's in Manila, Philippines (November 4-11).

2 - 10 September 2006

IPT World 8 Ball Open, Reno Pat had another tough group in the opening stages but played much better than the 1st event and won 3 matches from 4. His first game was against Shannon Daulton (USA) which he won 8-4 and then up against another strong American player in Shawn Putnam which he scored an impressive 8-5 win.
Up next was a tour qualifier by the name of Dave Broxson (USA) who many fancied to do really well in this group but Pat played up to his strengths and won 8-1 comfortably. So with 3 wins from 3 Pat had eased his way to round 2 and took his guard down in the last match against his close friend Brain Saleh which he lost 8-3.
Pat got off to a great start in round 2 winning 2 of his 1st 3 matches. He defeated Joern Kaplan (Germany) 8-3 and Hiroshi Takenaka (Japan) 8-6 before losing out to Kelly Fisher (UK) 8-5, Rob McKenna (UK) 8-3 and finally Ralf Souquet 8-2. Again Pat was let down with his breaks only recording 7 break and run outs in 9 matches!
If Pat can get his breaking game up to speed then all players beware as he doesn't miss much when in amongst the balls.

 22 - 27 August 2006

World Cup of Pool, Newport Pat teamed up with Michael Valentine to represent Scotland and compete in the inaugural World Cup of Pool organised by Matchroom Sport. They lost out in their opening match 9-5 to 2nd seeds Holland (Nick Van Den Berg & Neils Feijn -  the No2 & No3 ranked players in Europe). The format of 'Scotch doubles' was unknown territory to both Scottish players as they have never played under these conditions before. Pat and Michael acquitted themselves well and only 2 missed pots from either player was to be their downfall as Holland played perfect pool to run out winners.

20 August 2006

SAPPA Scottish 8 Ball Championship, Falkirk Pat lost out in the quarter-final stage 6-5 to Ross McInnes at the inaugural American 8 Ball Championship. Pat started well against Ross running the 1st two racks from the break but a bounce out from the middle bag in the 3rd game was the turning point as Ross clawed his way back into the match. Pat missed a good chance to go 5-4 up and will rue the chance as Ross cleared from Pat's dry break in the decider to take the win.
On route Pat had good wins against Michael Valentine 5-4, Andy Morris 5-1 and Jayson Shaw 6-5 in the last 16.

19 August 2006

On route to the semi-final Pat defeated Andy Morris 7-2 in the quarter-final and had fine wins of 5-1 against Ross McInnes and 5-0 against Jim O'Hare in the group stages.

12 - 13 August 2006

Pat had chance in the last frame but snookered himself on his last ball and Daryl cleaned up to reach the final. On route to the semi-final Pat defeated Mark Berry 10-7, Neil Cummins 10-8, Bob Harris 10-6 and Gareth Esprit 10-5.
A star packed EPT event that including 15 IPT players Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mika Immonen, Marcus Chamat, Imran Majid, Raj Hundal, Karl Boyes, Darren Appleton, Carl Morris, Phil Harrison, Neil Raybone, Rob McKenna, Vincent Facquet, Laurent Travers, Daryl Peach and Pat Holtz plus many other players from England, Ireland, Wales, Norway, Belgium, Spain and Scotland.

In the last 16 he defeated Pete King 7-3, and a fine qtr-final win of 8-3 over Clark Smith saw him into the semis only to come unstuck against Michael. A dry break at 8-7 up was Pat's final shot as Michael cleared up and broke and dished in the final frame to seal victory.

22 - 30 July 2006

IPT North American 8 Ball Open, Las Vegas Pat had a very disappointing start to his IPT career, recording 1 win from 4 matches in a tough group. Pat lost his 1st game to Mike Davis (USA) by 8-2 scoreline with some uncharacteristic positional play to gift Mike a good few frames. In his 2nd match with Darren Appleton (UK), both players struggled to find form and a scrappy game ensued with Darren winning 8-6. Pat had to win his last 2 matches to qualify into round 2.
Pat defeated Allen Hopkins (USA) by 8-6, coming from 6-4 down and showing dogged determination to claim victory. Alas it was not to be as Pat lost his final game 8-5 to Takeshi Okumura (Japan). Pat's weakest part of his game was his breaking with only 2 break and run outs in 4 matches!

24 - 25 June 2006

17 - 18 June 2006

EPT 8 Ball Tour Stop No1, Manchester Pat lost in the last 16 of the inaugural American 8 ball tour event to Rico Diks (Holland) 10-4. Pat had fine wins over Ireland's Gary Millen 10-5 in the 1st round and then an impressive 10-3 win over the top UK9 ball player Kevin Uzzell to reach the last 16 stage, where his breaks deserted him. Of the 7 breaks he had, 2 came up dry and 3 scratches became too costly against a very tough competitor in Rico who never let Pat into the match at all.
Pat snookered himself on 1 black and missed a black due to a 'kick' from the white ball. A combination of the above led to a one sided match that the scoreline reflects.

Pat played well to win this tough match 7-6. In the last 32 Pat defeated Willy Reilly from Ireland 7-3.
A last 16 match against another IPT player Darren Appleton where Pat came from 6-3 down to win 8-6. In the quarter finals he beat Shane Appleton (Darren's brother) by the same scoreline 8-6 to reach the semi-finals. Pat lost in the semi to Mick Hill 9-7. Coming back from 3-0 to draw level at 3-3 and then 6-6, Pat had a good chance to take the lead for the 1st time but missed a long pot and Mick capatilised on this error to go 7-6 up. A break and dish for Mick saw him on the hill at 8-6 only for Pat to pull out a great finish from nowhere to keep the pressure on his opponent at 8-7. Mick finished the match off with another break and dish to reach the final.
